Nintendo restores lost downloads

The biggest issue gamers had with Nintendo downloads is the fact that the downloads are specific to the device that downloaded them not a gaming profile like on the Sony or Microsoft consoles. This means if you lose the console you also lose your downloads which would be a serious problem; however Nintendo does offer to transfer the data over to a new system if you lose your 3DS.  Thanks to one gamer losing his 3DS he contacted Nintendo and they had this to say.

“Thanks for contacting us. I’m sorry to hear that your Nintendo 3DS is missing. We can help you transfer your data to a new system. Normally I would refer you to our website, however, the Nintendo 3DS data transfer issue you inquired about can only be addressed by speaking with you directly. We will need to verify some information in order to assist you, and due to that information’s sensitive nature we cannot do so through email. Therefore, once you have a new system we ask that you please give us a call.”

So this is good news for anyone going digital for Nintendo games because there is a way to restore your games if you lose your console, so those who decided against eshop downloads can breathe a sigh of relief.

Onslaught of Smash Brothers news

Super-Smash-Brothers-Logo-Wii-U-3DS

Lots of Smash Brothers news

So first off we now know that the Super Smash Brothers 3DS game will be released this summer while the Wii U version will be released around winter time.  Seems a bit odd at first but it’s understandable.  This is probably a way to get players to purchase both versions and rather than paying for them both at once, space them out to make the purchase more tempting and less pricy at one time.

For the new multiplayer news we find out for random online battles you can battle in two modes. For Fun, or For Glory.  For Fun is like any multiplayer battle, but For Glory puts the players in Final Destination with no items.  For Glory is definitely an interesting twist focusing simply on combat ability which will be more important with the new combos this version will have.  The 3DS version will have a unique multiplayer mode where for five minutes players will travel around the map and gain powerups by defeating random enemies. After the time limit the players go head to head so those who gain more powerups will have a significant advantage so this multiplayer mode is all about being able to maneuver quickly and effectively in order to defeat enemies as fast as possible.

Then we got some character news. First of all Shiek and Zelda are now two separate characters. So one cannot transform into the other. All transformations are taken out of the game so not only does this take out the well known Zelda/Shiek character but also we see Samus, and Zero Suit Samus separated. This also applied to the Pokemon Trainer because Squirtle and Bulbasaur are out. Charizard is now its own character and will join the fighting roster.  Also Charizard and Lucario will have their mega forms from Pokemon X and Y, but how that will affect the Pokemon is still unknown. My guess is their final smash attack will transform the pokemon and power up their moves.  Finally we get two confirmed characters Yoshi is returning and the new character Greninja, the Dark/water pokemon from Pokemon X and Y and the final evolution of the 6th generation water starter Froakie.

A lot of news in Super Smash Brothers and many of it was great, but on a personal note I’m a little disappointed because of the lack of Fire Emblem news in it. With the 3DS version featuring a level from Fire Emblem Awakening it leaves me to believe that a character from that game will show up, and if I’m right then that also means that we have a lot more to learn about the Super Smash Brothers roster so there’s still a lot we don’t know and we don’t have long before we can get our hands on the game.

Legos and Doctor Who

Lego is considering Doctor Who

Fans everywhere supported the idea of Doctor Who legos and after getting 10,000 supporters, Lego will review a Doctor Who set.  While this doesn’t mean a Doctor Who set will come out with such a huge fan base it certainly stands a good chance.

Lego had this to say about it.

“We’re looking forward to considering this project in the LEGO Review, but for now excuse us while we go make an electroshock device … just in case this really IS a Nestene plot to take over the world via a toy factory! We now officially advance this project to the Review phase.

What happens now?

This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A “LEGO Review Board” composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We’ll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product. This includes factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every potential LEGO product goes through a process like this and must meet the same standards.

This project qualifies for the Second 2014 Review beginning in May and ending in September.

The review is a thorough process and from its start, and can take several months. When finished, we make a “go/no go” decision to develop and sell a product based on the Doctor Who concept.

When the review is complete, we will inform you of our decision. If green-lit, this project goes into the longest phase of the project; the Development phase. During this time, LEGO model designers refine the product and develop it for release, we create the product materials (box, instructions, marketing), and get everything ready for a production run. This also takes several months.”

Will River return to the Doctor?

River Song

Will River Return?

So we say River Song say her goodbyes in The Name of the Doctor, but we also saw her die and yet we saw her several more times after that so does that really mean this is the end of River Song? Steven Moffat teased every River fan with this comment.

“It’s always down to whether there’s a good story. My immediate instinct was that story’s probably done. Not that we saw all of it, but I never thought we should see all of it. I’m slightly tempted, because I imagine Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston would be absolutely hilarious together…” and then went on to say “Or is the new thing that Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston would be very sexy together? Is that enough? We’ve always had fun with the fact that they don’t look like a couple. Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston would look like a couple – that’s the thing. Whereas I thought Matt and Alex were gorgeous together, but it looked slightly strange, because he was so much younger.”

Hopefully this is not the end of River since she has a whole book of adventures with the Doctor to pull from.  She is clearly a character of great significance to the Doctor and a memorable character it would be nice to see her come back and see what kind of onset chemistry she could make with her hopefully third Doctor.

McGann made a Quick Decision

8thDoctorWhoMcGannNewCostume4

McGann made a quick decision for the 50th

Paul McGann explained that in his appearance in the mini episode Night of the Doctor that he only had a moment to decide to be the Doctor once more. McGann had this to say.

“It was a quick decision. Steven Moffat got in touch and said ‘If I were to write it, would you do it?’ I asked could I think about it and he said ‘Think about it now… because we want to do it next week.’ I had such a quick decision to make and I’m glad, because sometimes when you do things quickly, it’s better.”

“I felt when I arrived in Cardiff that [Moffat] had probably written it the day before. That was the only gap he had, on that Sunday, because they were trying to finish the big 50th. We arrived and it was next to the set of the 50th and [the actors] had all left. They’d had the party the night before and they’d all just left. We arrived the next day and shot the mini-episode.”

It was a good thing that he did because it was amazing finally seeing the 8th Doctor on screen again and get a much needed regeneration scene. We also got to see McGann’s doctor look because what some fans don’t know is the original look was chosen by the directors and he was required to wear an uncomfortable wig.  This time he got to pick his own style which I felt in combination with all the audio dramas he did since the Doctor Who movie, made him a much more confident and entertaining Doctor. The only problem is that probably means this is the last time we’ll ever see the 8th Doctor. Well at least we can enjoy his audio dramas as they still continue.

Japan gets Mario Kart cards

So Japan fans of Mario Kart get an exclusive set of Mario Kart playing cards with a pre-order of Mario Kart 8. Looking at them while they look nice they seem a bit simple.  Just pictures of the nintendo characters on their vehicles and that’s about it.  Definitely something a Nintendo fan would want but doesn’t look like something to get overly excited about.

Watch Dogs is still coming to Wii U so people please relax

Watch Dogs is still coming to Wii U, hopefully this year

So while Ubisoft has set a release date for Watch Dogs for May 27th that was confirmed for X-Box 360, X-Box one, PS4, PS3, and PC. Nothing set in stone for the Wii U yet.  Ubisoft made sure to mention that the game is still coming out for the Wii U. Why is it taking longer for the Wii U version to come out?

Dominic Guay, a senior producer of Watch Dogs had this to say. “We have our studio in Bucharest working on it, and we wanted that team to have the time to explore the GamePad and be able to have fun with it and see how far they could push it,” he continues by saying. “It’s also an interesting platform, because it has its own strength, which we want to take advantage of, and we didn’t want to delay all the other platforms for that one. So we’re going to take the time we need to make sure the game is good  when we ship it and that it also, game design-wise, makes good use of the specifics of the Wii U.”

Because of the delay for the Wii U Ubisoft had to once again confirm the game for the console.  So for those who plan to get the game for Wii U, you can relax because it’s still coming. Ubisoft is just taking extra time to take advantage of the Wii U gamepad. As for when it will come out Guay said. “We don’t have a specific ship date for it yet so it’s considered within the year”

Bubble Pop World

3DS presents Bubble Pop World

Recently it was announced that a game called Bubble Pop World would be coming to Nintendo E-shop. What’s so special about it? It takes advantage of the 3DS augmented reality function which has not be used in many games. Some examples include Kid Icarus Uprising, Kingdom Hearts, and Pokemon Dream Radar, but all those games were few and far between so it’s easy to forget it even exists.

So for those who kept the cards that game with your 3DS you’re in luck because once this game is out using the question block card you can play a puzzle game where you shoot bubbles to make matching pairs. Seems simple enough, but you can also play mini games and create your own puzzles which can be shared using a QR code.  So it’s good to see that the AR function of the 3DS is still being used. It is an interesting idea that can really be expanded on.

00 Neeson

Liam Neeson

00 Neeson

So Goldeneye could’ve been a very different movie.  Liam Neeson the actor best known for roles in movies like Taken, Batman Begins, and Star Wars Episode 1 was actually offered the role of James Bond nearly 20 years ago.

So why would such a talented actor who could’ve done the role justice refuse the role? Because his would be wife didn’t like the idea. Neeson had this to say when talking about it. “I was heavily courted, let’s put it that way, and I’m sure some other actors were too. It was about 18 or 19 years ago and my wife-to-be said, ‘If you play James Bond we’re not getting married’. And I had to take that on board because I did want to marry her.”

So there you have it. Neeson couldn’t do the movie because he was Taken. Yeah I know horrible pun but I thought if it and had to use it.
