Virtual Battle damage valued at $200,000

EVE-Online

Virtual Battle damages worth $200,000

Eve Online experienced its biggest battle yet with damages valued at $200,000. EVE Online is an online game where players can make their own fleet of starships and send them into battle to form alliances, claim territories, and battle against people all over the world. Players use the games currency, ISK, in order to purchase ships to sent into battle. Players also have to pay a monthly fee in order to continue playing this game.  You can either pay the fee with your own money or use some of your ISK. Using this information it was possible to determine that $1 is roughly 4 million ISK.

The largest ship in the game is the Titan which can cost around 222 billion ISK, which translates to $5,500. 75 of these ships were destroyed in yesterdays battle which makes it easy to see how this battle has such a costly price tag.

But why did this battle happen.  Apparently someone missed a payment so that freed up a section in the game which could be taken by other players. Major groups in the game rushed over to secure the open section and battled furiously in order to take it. Over 4,000 players participated in this battle and it was easily the largest and most brutal battle in the game’s history.  Eventually the battle ended and someone won, but at a large cost to their fleet. Now all the combatants struggle to restore their fleets to their former glory as they have to build up their material and ISK to make their ships all over again.

Vita possibly on the rise?

Vita

Could the Vita be on the rise?

Since its release the Vita has been overshadowed by literally every other console on the market. The Vita has hardly been news worthy, but all that could be changing with some new games coming out that are getting some publicity in gaming news.

The first is Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars. The newest game by Atlus USA this JRPG will hit stores on April 15, 2014 for PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS.  While not much is known about this game in particular, Atlus has always provided some of the most iconic JRPG’s around which could prove to be beneficial for the Vita.

The second game is Demon Gaze, a Vita exclusive by NIS America, coming stores on April 22, 2014. NIS America is another company known for their quality of games and with this game being a Vita exclusive gamers will have to get a Vita in order to get their hands on this game.

While we still don’t have a lot of news about games for the Vita, the fact that we’re getting games from well known corporations shows that it could rise in popularity. With it being early in the year it’s possible for more games to come out for the Vita and give it the popularity it needs to sell. So what do you think? Can the Vita pull off what the 3DS did last year or is it too late for this almost forgotten system?

Intel dives deeper in the tablet market

intel

Intel Strives for the Tablets

Intel plans to increase the amount of tablets that incorporate Intel technology from 10 to 40 million in 2014. With computer sells down, and tablet sells on the rise Intel plans to adapt to the market by having more tablet makers incorporate their Bay Trial processing chip instead of the ARM-Processor found in most tablets.

This seems like a simple transition but the Bay Chip requires more materials in order to make it fully functional, so to persuade companies to use their product Intel plans to completely fund the cost of materials. Even Intel CFO Stacy Smith admitted that they will have a “significant increase” in operating loss in order to fund this plan. They are hoping companies such as Samsung will take advantage of this offer and switch to their processing chips.

While it seems like this is a bad idea at face value Intelis planning for years to come as they plan on releasing a new chip in 2015 which should reduce the cost of materials needed to be incorporated into tablets. By then they hope by then more companies will be using Intel brand chips so when they switch to the new model, companies will be willing to pay for the new chip.

So Intel plans to lose money by paying companies to use their processing chips in their tablets, but once successful they plan to release a new,  and cheaper chip to start selling to the companies who now use Intel products. It’s clearly risky because they’ll lose a lot of money up front, but if the tablet makers agree to this it could mean a big pay off in the long run for Intel.

Tales of Phantasia on iOS

tales of phantasia

Tales of Phantasia comes to iOS devices

Tales of Phantasia, originally released on the Game Boy Advance, arrives as a free to play game on iOS devices.

For anyone who is a fan of the Tales games, that comes as a surprise as each game in the series comes with complex characters, long story arcs, and hours and hours of gameplay; however, the app increases the game’s difficulty to force players to buy help such as in game items, and continuing right where you fell if you got a game over, and has an always online requirement so the game can’t be played without an internet connection.

While this seems nice, it’s better to go ahead and look for the original copy online and purchase that over this free to play app.

Palutena as a Super Smash Brothers Character?

palutena

Palutena as a Super Smash Brothers Fighter?

Recent pictures reveal Palutena, a character from Kid Icarus, as a character that will appear in the new Super Smash brothers game, but without any official statements we don’t know for sure what purpose she serves. It is possible she is the newest fighter to join the Super Smash Brothers Roster, or she could just be an assist trophy.

For those not familiar with the Kid Icarus series, Palutena is a goddess that Pit serves in order to stop the forces of evil from attacking the human race. She gives Pit the ability to fly for five minutes at a time, and stays out of combat. So what do you hope for? Do you want her as a playable character, or are you hoping that she is an assist trophy?

Watch Dogs Rumor Gone Wild

Watch Dogs

Watch Dogs rumor gone out of control

So earlier Gamestop’s preorder option for Watch Dogs for Wii U suddenly disappeared.  Rather than assessing why it happened in the first place a rumor spread that the whole game was just canceled for the Wii U. Ubisoft had no official confirmation as to what happened, and without any word from them the speculations continued as news of this spread all over the internet.

What was the real cause of all this uproar? A simple computer error which caused the preorder option to disappear.  The computer error was fixed and you can now continue to pre order your copy of Watch Dogs for the Wii U and any other console you choose.

Amazing how one simple error can cause such speculation.

Megaman Board game

Mega Man

Megaman Board game blasts past kickstarter goal

Jasco Games set a goal on Kickstarter to raise $70,000 towards the creation of their Megaman Board game. After raising over double their goal in the first day they managed to raise over $415,000. With the funding going so well Jasco games managed to add new figures, cards, and dice to the game. A fitting way to thank those who have donated. The Megaman fans have spoken and with an unyielding support they want this game.

Jasco games had this to say on Kickstarter. “It has been an amazing 38 days for the Jasco Games team. We have received so much overwhelming support, so many thoughtful comments, and such excellent feedback from all of our fans. We’re so excited and can’t wait for all of you to get the board game in your hands. We’ll be making updates over the next few weeks and months as progress on the board game is made.”

After seeing a demonstration of the beta version of the game it is a fitting tribute to the long time fans of Megaman including things such as the ability to steal powers from the bosses, , cards based on weapons like the mega buster, and characters such as Roll, Fireman, Iceman, Protoman, and of course Megaman. As for game play it revolves around defeating enemies in a section before getting to a boss. When you defeat the boss you gain a power, but along the way your opponents can assume the role of Dr. Wily and hinder your battles, and even if you overcome them you still must out roll your target to win the battle. First one to gain enough powers to fight Dr. Wily and win, wins the game. Sounds simple, but it’s much easier said than done.

The Megaman board game is a 2-8 player game set to release in October of this year. The cost for the basic version is $70, but extra card packs will be available for purchase.

Samuel L. Jackson’s Marvel Contract Almost Up

NickFury

Samuel L. Jackson’s Marvel Contract almost up

Originally Samuel L. Jackson signed a deal with Marvel Studios to play the iconic Nick Fury in nine movies, and with Captain America: The Winter Soldier coming out soon his contract is almost up.

Jackson has already played in six of the nine movies he signed for which include Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Also with Avengers 2: Age of Ultron that takes his total up to seven.

With so many movies coming out after Avengers 2, it would be wise for Marvel to negotiate a new deal with Jackson so that he doesn’t use up all his movies by Avengers 3 because you can’t make an Avengers movie without Nick Fury, and you won’t find someone who can play Nick Fury like Samuel L. Jackson.

The good news is Jackson is willing to continue doing Marvel movies if an offer is made.
